Role Title: Employment Skills Mentor
Overview of the role:
Norwood is committed to increasing the ability of the learning disabled people we support to live more independently. A key element in promoting independence is the ability to have a job. This volunteer mentoring role is designed to work directly with a learning disabled adult whilst they are at work on a car washing scheme ensuring they complete their allocated duties to the required standard and on time.
Training:
Full training will be provided for volunteer mentors so that they understand the role.
Support:
The volunteer mentor will be required to have regular supervision sessions to report back on progress.
Commitment:
It is expected that volunteer mentor will give a commitment to the mentoring relationship for a significant period of time. The actual times and frequency of meetings will be negotiated and agreed.

· Reliable and able to keep appointments on time,
· Ability to set and maintain appropriate relationship boundaries,
· Resilient to setbacks and disappointments,
· Understanding of the need to be non-judgemental,
· Able to understand and adopt a person centred approach to the development of the relationship,
· Ability to communicate clearly,
· Ability to empathise with people from different backgrounds,
· Able to understand safeguarding and protection issues in relation to vulnerable adults, and finally:
· A willingness to get your hands wet!!
