Corporate Director Harrow Children's Service
Press Release
One of London's most senior leaders in child care is to take over as Corporate Director for Children's Services at Harrow Council. Catherine Doran, currently Children's Service Adviser at the Government Office for London (GOL), joins Harrow Council at the beginning of March. She will then have a one-month handover with the outgoing director Paul Clark, who has held the post since 2003.
A Social Science graduate of Middlesex University, Mrs Doran's experience ranges from senior posts at Camden Council to the role of head of Psycho-Social Services at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. A trained social worker, Mrs Doran's most recent role prior to being seconded to the Government Office for London was a seven year period as Assistant Director for Children, Schools and Families at Camden Council. It was there that Catherine set up the original Children and Young People's partnership and launched Camden's first Children's plan in 2000. Seconded to GOL in 2007, Catherine has been offering support and expertise on children's welfare to seven East London boroughs and has also been the strategic lead on youth crime prevention for the capital.
Catherine said: "I am really looking forward to my move to Harrow and to be given this wonderful opportunity. "I have enjoyed and learnt so much during my time on secondment to Government, but my heart is in community services. I have been really impressed with Harrow's work and am looking forward to joining what will be an exciting new environment."
Michael Lockwood, Chief Executive of Harrow Council, said: "Catherine brings a great deal of London-wide experience and will significantly strengthen our senior management team.
"Children's Services in Harrow have rightfully earned a reputation for innovation, from maintaining the high quality of our sought-after schools to the innovative work done on issues like extremism, internet safety and child safeguarding. "I look forward to Catherine building on her predecessor's excellent record."
