Stroke Research Project
Stroke is now London’s second biggest killer and Harrow has one of the highest prevalence rates in the capital. Harrow has a growing elderly population and a large BME population, both of which are factors associated with higher stroke incidence. The number of people suffering from strokes in Harrow is predicted to rise significantly over the next few years. With this, Harrow is giving more attention to stroke issues.
This project is now completed. The research report provides up to date information of current stroke provision in Harrow for stroke survivors and carers. It also provides details from focus group meetings the HAVS Stroke Research Coordinator had with stroke survivors and carers, and makes relevant recommendations from the information gathered.
In addition we have compiled a list of useful contacts.
The following were the main aims of the project:
-
Researching and providing up to date information about services that are currently provided in Harrow for stroke survivors and their carers.
-
Organising focus groups for stroke survivors and their carers in order to identify their support and information needs.
- Producing a report on provision for users of the services.
- Work with other service providers for stroke survivors and their carers, and provide networking opportunities for our clients (we do not provide clinical services ourselves)
