Voluntary Sector Elections
New representatives on Harrow Partnership Board
The sector has nominated the following people to become representatives:
Age Concern Harrow
Avani Modasia
HASVO
Hassan Khalief
Harrow Mencap
Deven Pillay
Kids Can Achieve
Julie Browne
Somali Cultural and Educational Association
Dr Mohamed Aden
As we had 5 nominations for 5 places we did not need an election.
The new representatives will start after the May elections.
Deven Pillay is also the Adviser to the Grants Panel, and was the only nominee.
Congratulations to all!
Harrow Partnership Board
The sector has five representatives on Harrow Partnership Board who are elected every two years.
The role of the representatives is to represent the views of the Voluntary and Community Sector at Harrow Partnership Board and to feedback the outcomes of meetings to the Voluntary and Community Sector either through the Voluntary and Community Sector Forum and/or other events or through networking and mailouts. The Board considers the development and updating of the Sustainable Community Strategy, monitoring the delivery of the Local Area Agreement and the health and development of the Partnership relationships in improving wellbeing in the Borough. The representatives are welcome to use HAVS mailout and website for communications with the sector.
The Harrow Partnership Board generally meets every 3-4 months and the meetings last about 2 hours. Representatives will be expected to attend meetings as a priority. If you consider standing for this position, you will need to think about how you can effectively represent the views of the wider voluntary sector (not just your organisation) and how you can consult with groups generally.
The Voluntary Sector representatives also meet on a quarterly basis with Michael Lockwood and often the Leader of the council. There is therefore an additional time commitment in terms of attending these meetings and preparing for them.
If you would like more details about what Harrow Strategic Partnership undertakes or how the representatives work, please either contact Julia Smith at HAVS, Mike Howes at Harrow Council or one of the Voluntary Sector representatives themselves. HAVS have contact details if you need them.
